University experts host safety training for students

As part of their efforts to promote safety across the UGA campus and beyond, the University of Georgia’s Office of Emergency Preparedness and the student-led Prepared Dawgs Ambassadors will host free training classes for university students this spring.

The first class, Basic Emergency Preparedness, will be held Wednesday, March 18, from 6 to 7 p.m. This class will cover how to prepare, respond to, and recover from an emergency, both at home and in the workplace. The first 50 students to attend will receive a free Emergency Preparedness kit, which includes a light source, emergency blanket, water, and a meal bar.

The next class, scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, from 6 to 7 p.m., will cover Stop the Bleed, which teaches how to control life-threatening bleeding using a tourniquet, applying pressure with gauze, and other techniques. The first 50 students to attend will receive a free Stop the Bleed kit, which includes gloves, materials for wound packing, and a tourniquet.

Both classes will take place in the Miller Learning Center, Room 207.

Registration is not required.
