Goal: Our goal is to facilitate the safety of our community and protect the rights of all, as we support the University’s mission of teaching, research, and service.
Mission: Our mission is to promote safety in all of its forms, especially by preventing harm, and meeting the rights and needs of victims.
We are committed to processes that emphasize continuous improvement and attention to innovation in public safety. We strive to make our community safer each day by working in partnership with our UGA colleagues, public safety partners at other local, state and federal agencies, and our wider community.
Public safety at the University of Georgia is a collective effort that reaches across divisions and schools and relies on the input and cooperation of our entire UGA family. While certain units on campus—like the UGA Police Department, the Office of Emergency Preparedness and the Environmental Safety Division—dedicate their full-time staff and resources to this mission, it is incumbent on our whole community to contribute to the safety and well-being of campus. Together, we strive to co-produce the safe and secure environment our campus community deserves.
We are deeply appreciative of the partnerships we have created within UGA, throughout our city, and across our state and nation. We benefit from deep and long-standing relationships with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, and Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services, as well as other local, state, and federal government agencies, who share our commitment to the safety of our community.
